Industrial development
through the progress of science and technology has seriously damaged
and polluted the global environment. The improvement of living standard
has neglected the criteria for survival:air, water and food. Science,
technology and industry create new era for the comfort and convenience
of mankind, and at the same time should bear the crisis derived from
air, water and food pollution.
Air
Pollution:
Lead, cadmium, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide as
air pollutants to cause nerve, respiratory sickness with bronchitis
and lung cancer.
Water
Pollution:
Chlorination of drinking water can cause reaction of organic substances
in water to react with chlorine forming carcinogenic trihalomethanes
and carbon tetrachloride, the cancer causing agent.
Food
Pollution:
Uncontrolled use of agricultural chemicals, herbicides and antibiotics
has brought forth soil and water pollution, with residuals causing food
poisoning and chronic sickness.
It
is worthwhile to think over and emphasize the way to obtain from nature,
to use for nature and to recycle to nature. |
